Best Kitchen Gadget to Give
We’ve learned from experience that most gadgets are really stupid, but one thing we can no longer live without is our vac-sealer at the shop. It dramatically improves fridge and freezer life, it’s great for marinating, and it’s fun as hell.

Greg & Liz have one of the best and most meaningful gift ideas so definitely read on. Hint: It includes food and wine, and your loved ones will remember it forever.

I usually love to give homemade gifts (I do work for Martha Stewart, after all). Last year I made delicious homemade granola and packaged it with a pair of cozy PJ pants. This year I made lovely Gingerbread Caramels. When pressed for time, I like to give cocktail garnishes from Sable & Rosenfeld. I love the Tipsy Olives and Tipsy Cherries to garnish my cocktails and I think these are something that no one thinks to buy for themselves.

Ad Hoc At Home – approachable food from Thomas Keller. I like all his books because all his recipes work. This one is particularly good for families, and it’s Keller being light and funny. It’s a must for foodies.

Chickens, allspice and a kitchen utensil chef’s find very useful are also on Gordon’s gift list. Read on for the goods.

Armando Manni Truffle Oil, the best you will ever taste.
Armando Manni is a former filmmaker who makes extra virgin olive oil from olives that grow on a single slope in Tuscany. He devised a unique procedure to combat oxidation and deterioration so the organically farmed extra virgin oils reach the consumer in the same condition they left the press—intact and alive. He uses tiny, tinted glass bottles and tops it off with inert glass. Two 100 ml bottles are 44 euros. Indulge here.

Forget the department store chocolates that have been shipped from overseas and sitting around in warehouses and on shelves for who knows how long. Forgo the truffles made with oil instead of fresh cream. Go to SOMA and get some real chocolate. This is the only place in Toronto that makes their own chocolate, from the bean, using time-honoured techniques and fresh ingredients. I particularly enjoy the chocolate-covered corn nuts and the cocoa latte bar.
