Have you been eating salmon and tuna salad sandwiches all your life? Are you ready to eff the Filet-O-Fish? It’s time to upgrade, kids!

The Fish Store (657 College St.) is the place to experience a real fish sandwich. When you walk in this tiny neighbourhood spot, you’re greeted by a selection of fresh seafood on ice. There’s Grouper, Sea Bass, Salmon, Halibut, Calamari, White Fish, Shrimp, Scallop and many more. Simply make your pick or ask the knowledgeable staff what’s the freshest catch of the day.

Your choice of fish is then grilled, covered with an extremely flavourful vinaigrette and paired with lettuce, fresh cilantro, tomato and red onion. It’s all squished into a fresh Portuguese roll. I splurged on the Black Cod ($9.75) which I’d highly recommend. I also had a bite of the Orange Roughy ($7.59) which was also tasty, but unanimously inferior to the cod because of its slightly drier texture.

The Fish Store also serves three types of soup: Clam or Manhattan Chowder and Butternut Squash (all $3.99). Plus they’ve got fish burritos, fish burgers and a fish salad. Yep, this is the place where all your seafood dreams will come true.
