Yes it’s true! Salsa Rosada is a salad dressing made from the bizarre combination of ketchup and mayonnaise, and typically served over shredded cabbage. We weren’t too sure what to make of it, never mind the rest of the dish which included a deep-fried, pork-filled rolled taco. And just when you thought you felt those first heart palpitations, there’s a side of french fries to bring on a full-fledged heart attack.

Costa Rica isn’t typically known for its culinary excellence, although we did taste some exceptional dishes on our journey. This was by far the lowest point on the culinary scale. The only thing that saved the meal were the ice cold bottles of Fresca.
