
We at Plato Putas have consumed countless delicious meals at Terroni, a Southern Italian restaurant that pays homage to tradition and authenticity in Italian cuisine. Founded at 720 Queen Street West in 1992, the name Terroni is inspired by the derogatory term Northern Italians used for their Southern neighbors. In the 17 years since, Terroni’s has opened two more locations in Toronto (1 Balmoral Ave., 57a Adelaide St. E.) and one in Los Angeles (7605 Beverly Blvd.).
The menu at Terroni is extremely diverse, but the restaurant is typically known for its thin-crust, hand-rolled, uncut pizzas with toppings such as arugula, buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto, to name a few.

But our favorite meal hands down is splitting the Insalate Verde ($6.50) and the Rigatoni Arcobaleno ($16.95). We’re so satisfied by this meal, that even though we read over and consider the entire menu every time we eat at Terroni, we almost always order these same two dishes.
The simple rustic salad contains an array of organic leafy greens, tomatos and whole salty black olives, complete with pits. The dressing is a simple and traditional oil vinaigrette, and this pairs perfectly with the pasta. A plate of hand-made rigatoni smothered in a light cherry tomato sauce with zucchini and topped off with fresh mozzarella di bufala and freshly grated parmesean cheese. Delicious!

No Terroni’s meal is complete without their signature peperoncini hot peppers. You can purchase a jar at the restaurant for $10.99. This way, you’ll be able to enjoy a bit of Terroni’s with all of your home-cooked meals.

Terroni’s draconian withholding of parmesan cheese has made me love them less. MUCH less. More cheese please.

Terroni’s is the “goto” restaurant for entertaining out-of-towners. They win because they see lively Toronto hot spot, you win because the food is outstanding.
